ABOUT ABOUT

Virtually join the Friends of Fort Hunter and local author, Joyce Kieffer, as she discusses her novels, set in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s that deal with issues that are still relevant to today: environment, race, socioeconomics, and gender. Superimposed on these themes are the lush, beautiful forests, the rich cultural stories of rural Pennsylvania farm life and Native American respect for the plants, soil, and water we all share.

A champion of women’s health throughout her 55-year career, Joyce established the one of the first organized childbirth classes offered in Pennsylvania in the 1960s, developed several health education and resource centers for women and their families, and started a parish nursing practice.  Drawing on her career in women’s health and inspired by the forests of Juniata County, Joyce picked up her author’s pen to take on her lifelong dream of writing an historic novel.
