ABOUT ABOUT

Join the Friends of Fort Hunter and Dr. Steven Burg for a virtual presentation Pennsylavania's African American burial grounds and what we can learn from them today.

Across Pennsylvania, and even on land that was once part of the Fort Hunter estate in Harrisburg, historic African American burial grounds connect us to the long and interesting history of Pennsylvania's African-American residents. This talk will take us on a journey from Fort Hunter to communities across the Commonwealth to consider the stories contained in these historic burial sites. We will also consider the threats posed to many sites by development and neglect, and the important work underway to document and preserve these unique and powerful hallowed grounds.
